The Magic behind the Show Poster

Aside from the performance itself, the key to a successful show is great promotion, and one of the simplest yet most effective promotional pieces is the show poster. You might think it's easy enough to make a beautiful poster, but it’s not all design without thought. Posters need to be more than just aesthetics. Unless your poster is created with the right motivation, there's a good chance it won't bring you the results you want to see.

It’s not hard sell

The thing to keep in mind about poster design is that it shouldn’t be doing direct promotion, or hard-sell marketing.  Instead, offer about what’s great about the show, what excitement awaits them when they attend. That said, let your poster design grab attention, with all the necessary performance details provided.

Attract the First Time

Your poster needs to seize and capture wandering eyes. If no one would turn to look at your poster, it's not likely you'll sell many tickets. Create a headline that will entice folks to read the rest of the details in the poster.

Promote your show

Not only should your poster tell viewers what can be expected or awaited, the more important objective is to pique their curiosity enough to make them feel compelled to see what’s up with the show that gets them interested and stirred up. Don’t list the special effects that will be used, get them to imagine what it’s going to be like.
